Collection: Animals

When I was little, I used to draw horses all the time.  When I was in the sixth form at school, I started receiving commissions from family and friends to draw their dogs and horses.  One of the best jobs I received was to draw each of the horses in the racing stables which were across the road from home.  I think the trainer and his wife gave the drawings to the racehorse owners as Christmas presents.  I wish I had made copies of the pictures, if only to be able to look back to check whether they were any good.

During lockdown, like many people, I found myself with a bit of time on my hands and my daily walks around Hyde Park in London reduced my animosity towards squirrels.  Hitherto, I had considered them to be urban rats with bushy tails and had got annoyed when I saw tourists fawning over them.  However, when it felt like I was alone with them in the London parks, I found them highly entertaining and very cheeky. All of which led me to start painting squirrels, and other feral animals, in a looser style.  The fun I have had led to the alphabet of animals found in the lettering section.
